Happy Man 04:01
Happy Man I'm gonna take the highest road to the glory coast Sit in that promised chair, wait til things blow over Take a look at everything differently Starting by looking at the sand from the sea I’ve been waiting patiently for something new to come over If I could take you there I would tell you something That I'm not just channel surfing no no no So give it a chance babe and make me a happy man I can't make you but I'm hoping that you're gonna stick around Because I don't want to walk alone Just like every man and every woman I'm just hoping I go down gracefully When that feeling comes over me Walk with me until when I will be a happy man You can try and stop me saying how beautiful the view Give it a chance babe make me a happy man Walk with me until when I stop being so damned interesting Because I don't want to walk alone Just like every man and every woman I'm just hoping I go down gracefully When that feeling comes over me

Football Boots In my football boots I went to court There was a charge against my name The charge he read was trespass I said you took my sky, my family, my land So come on ask me a question I wanna see you work it out I wanna watch while you choose your words I wanna watch you hear my answer Oh So leave me to my empty space and I will give you forest fires I will leave you to your ignorance of all this empty space of mine I will die with my wisdom In your city looking out to sea You will search for meaning In the air around you your meaning will be me Oh You wanna travel to the stars My people could have given you time I will say sorry for the both of us and take this sentence of mine You, my sweet pariah You and you whole clan Though I might have missed ya You're the misery, you're the money man Oh

The Funeral 05:26
The Funeral When the people showed up at the funeral And the best friend got up to speak He kind of looked out at the people And out of kindness looked down at his feet There were people there who he hadn't seen since long ago There were some there that he didn't wanna see So he shuffled in his suit and he cleared his throat Then he said I wish it were me I wish I was the one who was dead and gone I wish it weren't her and it were me Now I don't know that I can do this thing alone Oh no baby please When they drove into the car park to buy alcohol And the hideous light was shining on the street They were numb enough by now to be joking some Then someone said I wish it were me I wish I was the one who was dead and gone I wish it weren't her and it were me Now I don't know that I can do this thing alone Oh no baby please When the papers came out in the morning With the law notes and the news of the dead They didn't sing a note for you my darling They didn't sign a word for you my babe I wish I was the one who was dead and gone Because she would have made a better speech Now I don't know that I can do this thing alone Oh no baby please

Simple Things When I'm old and tired of being this way Will you touch my hand, tell me it's okay Like it always is like it always was I'm here and baby I will have been yours If I lose my legs in this big old game Will you tell things, love me just the same Like you always did like it always was I'm here and baby I will have been yours Simple things to say I know It won't all be easy But right here Something's come to rest In the only piece of silence Where I know no I've been hold my breath Take me back again to the part about the long grass And that thing about your grandad And that old swinging tyre rope Let's make stories of our own I wanna see the last thing from your writing hand Oh babe do I wanna be your man Like it always is like it always was I'm here and baby I will have been yours

The River Tells We cannot cross the river River she loves us so People they know us there Down on the other shore There is another story Made out of private truths And though we've said our sorrys These are forbidden fruits And we see it in their eyes When they say we have lied We keep hanging on When the talking cheapens our song Out of this frailty Taking it day by day The forging of you and me It is no counterfeit River she tells a story River she has two sides

The Undertow 05:03
The Undertow They say that things come and that they go Oh that conversation's growing old It's dried me out to my very bones My suspicions haven't served me well yet I think you better go Cause I can feel the undertow You better go Cause I can feel the undertow How does everything get so inside-out When all we do it pray and watch it grow There are difficult things that pass us by Is it the water is it undertow Water in the undertow Trouble comes in many small loads And for every deed there is a toll Babe I hope that you remember There was water in the undertow Water in the undertow There's a sadness in me that I've always known And it's just waiting for some vehicle Water in the undertow

Not Your Man 02:27
Not Your Man Not your man anymore I'm not the one to call If you wanna borrow money If you need your car towed If you're looking for a friend To tell your troubles to I'm not the one I'm not the one for you Not your man anymore Not your man anymore I'm not the one I'm not the one for you

The Bus 05:25
The Bus The nigh-time bus driver pushes on closer When I talk to him he doesn’t answer I thought I heard him say ‘you are nobody here’ Just as she stepped on he did not register her She climbed up the stairs with her hair and high heels in her hand She didn’t look at me looking at her sitting down The driver had not been one for too much conversation I don’t know what I said but when she spoke I listened (she said) Trust in everything that I don’t say What is it that you think of me Every thought you’ve had of this time is mine to wear home Sometimes I am just too curious She said my body is bought and sold just across the border With each and every purchase I cross that line a little further Tell me everything that you think that you know About a night that is long I’ve just had myself one and I’m going home I’m going home Trust in everything that I don’t say Think what you will of me Every thought that you’ve had of this time is mine to wear home

Betrothed 05:38
Betrothed I am betrothed To the innocent and unborn I am a slow moving target With a dumb song Help me believe in a better way Something to keep afloat I’m walking distance from you now Betrayed by what I’ve learned About the water Sorry about your mum and dad Fighting for space in this hessian bag You grow on up like a magic bean Using my eyes to look at me In a dream I met a man He looked at me as he shook my hand Smiled and said don’t you worry son Everybody struggles Everybody comes undone Take some consolation You are not alone

The Ice 03:37
The Ice I fell through the ice I was looking for a wife Opening my eyes as she expired Now I am surrounded by Biblical proportions while Shadows nearly form then fall away Plastic bags are loaded guns Loaded guns are lead balloons And choking is my way of knowing you And you there I lost you for a moment Can you hear This weary footsoldier Come up for air In need of one shoulder Are you there Are you there I’ve been into the darkness and unknown Nothing is as it was before If I told you what I saw Would you tell my daughter ‘Cause she’s gonna need to know Would you tell it all to her Would you tell her then I’m gone Would you tell

about

The second album by Sime Nugent and the Forefathers. The album was recorded shortly after the debut release and features some stellar guests. The band were playing a lot of shows at the. The Undertow is more of a domestic travel log than a global one. The song, Football Boots tells the story of an aboriginal man who was told to get leather shoes and a suit for his court appearance and showed up to court wearing football boots as they were all he had. To some people this has become an anthem of sorts.
