Host 05:24
Host I will let these words fall On your ears But I am not so loud you know As the deletions I’ve been thinking so much better of us both Since we side-stepped the issue here This roof is low At this stage I am tall I am the big fish you know I’m the one you heard about I was born yesterday But I’m grown up and I’m here now Words fail at some point you know And for my next trick I’m gonna turn to stone Turn to stone I’ll slip into a comfy tune Just the one you’ve heard before There are others just like me And with us you can build a wall So you never need to hear talk of accidents So you never need to hear at all There are more discrepancies Than you’ll ever know Pay no attention from now on Because I am an elaborate hoax And I am your host I am the big fish you know I’m the one you heard about I was born yesterday But I’m grown up and I’m here now

Porno Star Wars We kiss like porn stars Wipe the smiles from each other And we consume most of it Scratch our backs and then we play dead And when I washed you off I recall what we spoke of About something much more involved And I wondered should I hold on To my window seat where I watch you weeping And I tell myself that I should say nothing But I held you up for a while and I burned us both And I ran into the night, into the night Did she do it to herself Like you say you will Is this your only promise And every day you make it To your window seat where you watch me weeping And you tell yourself that you should say nothing But I held you up for a while and I burned us both And I ran into the night, into the night I’ve stood here before and before that I stood here This learning curve is it taking me nowhere

Tongue 05:21
Tongue The words come off your tongue I can only hear the drug You promise to pay me soon But who the hell are you The money is not the point I would give you my shirt If only you were cold I would give you it It found out your name And took you away It was the first to hear You say it out loud You got it on you now Like a hole in the head I know you feel afraid You got some might hungry veins But everyone and everything Is drifting away It is eating your name And your eyes are not your own But I can see you there A long way behind them You got it on you now Like a hole in the head

Bitterful 04:47
Bitterful Heard the voice raised for the first time Felt the bitter, broken man The damage that the years had done From his gut to mine His education’s over And he knows that now Bitterful, the memory still Grows old and mild and sour Bitterful In a house upon a hill The family against his will The land around his recompense As he pissed in the creek from one year to the next His education’s over And he knows that now Bitterful, the memory still Grows old and mild and sour Bitterful So hide the wireless under the bed Wash the sink with old champagne Three dogs will be better than one As you rise and face up to another day His education’s over And he knows that now Bitterful, the memory still Grows old and mild and sour Bitterful

The Cleaner 03:38
The Cleaner I will clean the room after you've gone take out the vacuum and I'll turn it on I get my uniform washed for free That pleases me, that pleases me And I get sensible shoes But I don't get the chance to choose After you've gone I will clean the room I will change the sheets I will wipe the phone clean I will check for damages The remote control Refill the shampoo and wipe off the soap I get my uniform washed for free That pleases me, that pleases me And I get sensible shoes But I don't get the chance to choose In the early afternoon When the new guests will be here soon I will lie down before you And I will wonder what to do I might clean this fucking room I might kick off my sensible shoes And check out your rubbish bin For anything that's interesting That might just have fallen in I'm gonna make it cleaner that it's ever been I get my uniform washed for free That pleases me, that pleases me And I get sensible shoes But I don't get the chance to choose

No Summer 04:05
No Summer It was the year that there was no summer The sand bags on the damn wall had broken down It didn’t seem so bad at the time But easy to see when we were dry While there are things I’m gonna miss about floating I’ve been to the feast and now I’m happy to starve There are things I’m gonna miss about floating I’ve been to the been beach and now I’m ready for Mars They moved the money tree to higher ground We waited all year but they never did bring it back down The only one who watered the damn thing Died when he crashed in his little broken dream While there are things I’m gonna miss about floating I’ve been to the feast and now I’m happy to starve There are things I’m gonna miss about floating I’ve been to the been beach and now I’m ready for Mars Now I’m ready

End of Hype 03:14
End of Hype These clearance sales they’re going on and on You can see it in the eyes of the customer assistance girls I go for my cheque book Took it out of my pocket Took a look at my last day I saw it all and I forgot it There is a sign on the wall A ghost of the world that we once knew Now that world is gone And the story so far is an illusion I bought an experience I said any one will do I am an animal But I bight and I can not chew There is a sign on the wall A ghost of the world that we once knew Now that world is gone And the story so far is an illusion I pray for the master race But I stay for the chorus I’m just here to watch the chase That consumes all of us I bought a golden truck And I filled it up with red carpet Now I’m on the way on up I had everything that I needed But I picked the wrong Mountain top

about

This is the first album by Sime Nugent and the Forefathers. The songs and accompanying photos were compiled over the previous few years while travelling with music in Australia, Europe and America. There weren’t a lot of people playing this kind of wide-screen pastoral music at this time in Australia.
This album came out of the blue for a lot of reviewers – “Devastatingly powerful, highly listenable roots music.” Rhythms.
