Alcoholic 03:58
Alcoholic Points to the sky for as long as he can remember Sorry he didn’t do more when he should have He had a reason he’s been trying to forget it and it started off this habit On the day that he woke up and things had become difficult Sorry to be reminded of himself Sick to the stomach at the thought of it now Way up and high in the alcohol He packs his own parachute and he falls and he falls and he falls The understanding he has is gone Will you put it up again Since you’ve never been hungry I doubt it my friend You might stay in your home Till the streets have all been cleansed You’ll be laughing then Out of embarrassment You’re on the other side of the road Where the coffee gets sold To all of the fearsome customers Of everything under the sun With your sense of humour intact And your warm, warm coat You’ll be laughing then Out of embarrassment

Only one water In the name that I was given There is little that I know There’s only one water For my friend or my foe In the name that I was given I know it to be true The truth can keep a man From getting kind of obtuse There’s only one water Only one water You see the truth is I know nothing But I'm here and here it goes There's only one water For my friend or my foe The town where I was born Is called the Catchment Overflow I introduced the poison To that dirty, dirty hole There’s only one water Only one water In the name that I was given and in my final breath There's only one water and you've only got yourselves to blame You should be ashamed You see the truth is I know nothing But I'm here and here it goes There's only one water For my friend or my foe I tied it to the camel I made a bed of salt I opened up the bible And I read the words of God Said there is only one water Only one water Only one

The Believer 03:37
The Believer Drowning on an empty street There are things that you could not have seen Where other strangers almost meet On every other day Never to have known you once What’s mine was yours, what’s ours was lost I heard the words I had the gut And my blessed anonymity Like a single passing note Unchanging not actually The way that I remember you And my swollen steps upon your shore Yeah I know it could be beautiful I’m going home To the bloody mind of ownership Whatever I say To whoever will believe me My memory is gone My anonymity I’ve got damaged goods to sell And unattended baggage now I’m on my own with half a house on a truck Through this broken place Where has that lady got to If she lived here we’d be home by now But we have never met I am no one Over rated empty street Speak to me You can tell me anything And I will believe Speak to me

Hullo Belle 04:53
Hullo Belle Hullo Belle it’s me and I’m calling you I need to talk to you about something It doesn’t need to take too long I won’t go on and on Because you never did like it that way But Belle I’ve got something to say I’ve had time to think about the two of us I’ve had time and I’ve had time Tried to find a place so I could keep you there Out of sight and out of mind But if you don’t know by now Then you never will That I wish you’d let me go When I gave it to you Cos Belle I’m just getting through Honey I’m not even sure what I am asking for People say it’s not yours to give Though I keep my distance Belle it leaves me cold Making plans on tender chills Do you plan to let me go any time soon Because I’m trying to move on without you And if you don’t know by now Then you never will That I wish you’d let me go When I gave it to you I try to stay amused Belle I’m just getting through

I’m Afraid for This Town A moment stirred the great unrest We tried to hold it down The weeks and years could not attest Humanity was drowned Embittered hearts, embattered bones We tried to hold it down Now I’m afraid, I’m afraid, I’m afraid, I’m afraid I’m afraid, I’m afraid for this town It started out innocuous And rattled down to gore Before we knew as if we could Our people were at war Then in our homes the trouble started To show it’s shapeless form The troubled part, the troubled whole It was yours, it was yours, it was yours We did not vindicate ourselves Or justify our call The nation stands recalcitrant In a hole, in a hole, in a hole Embittered hearts, embattered bones We tried to hold it down Now I’m afraid, I’m afraid, I’m afraid, I’m afraid I’m afraid, I’m afraid for this town

Hullo Belle 05:05
Virginia Well I got a job and I’m a few hundred dollars clear It’s just a job and I’m not really paid to think So while I’m working just to shit ‘em I’ve been thinking I’ve got a car, it’s not a fashion statement I paid a guy to fix it up for me He says he don’t think I should drive it out of here Virginia it’s been nearly five years I made some friends and I think they like me enough On Fridays we drink but I don’t drink scotch Because it makes me talk and I always seem to say too much Virginia it’s been nearly five years I don’t know how to keep you alive from here Your mother’s alright and I’ve been paying nearly half of the rent I’m going to clean up as soon as I stop breaking everything If you want to call the phone’s on but it don’t seem to ring Virginia

World Records Oh no now here I go Breaking word records on the long ride home There are people there And they know more than my name I’ve been high and low Looking for an answer up at the end of the road I was at heaven’s gate And I should have been taking a photo But people do the strangest things And everybody’s in the paparazzi So why should I pretend to understand When you didn’t come with instructions That’s not even close to true, let’s just say that I’m heading on back through what I know to what I knew I can remember the start of a plan Something about the road to hell and good intentions I’m not afraid of the future honey I’m just afraid of the past All of your ghosts are they with you darling I’m telling you that you’re looking at it So I’m heading on home to you I’ve got a novelty hat and a worn out shoe And whatever I decide to do Hell I don’t know When I’m back in the promised land And everybody’s drunk and getting out of hand That’s when I’ll be dreaming Of the road I’m not afraid of the future honey I’m just afraid of the past All of your ghosts are they with you darling I’m telling you that you’re looking at it

Find Our Way 05:27
Find Our Way Let your wall down low Bridges on the mend You are growing younger And stronger every day We will find our way When the road is closed And the daylight fades We will rest and know That time is on its way We will find our way When the war is over And the dead are sent We’ll be growing closer And closer to ourselves We will find our way

about

Compositionally, this is the largest sounding album in the catalogue that utilized the full scope of the Spicerack Studio facility and personnel. The album references some of the lush, wide screen music of the earlier releases but also brings something new. There are choirs, horns, electric guitars and a rockin' party going on here in songs about survival and pushing back.
